Agrium, VAULT Project
Supermétal fabricated 11,000 tons of structural steel for Agrium Vanscoy’s mine near Saskatoon. The project titled “VAULT” involves the expansion of Agrium's existing Vanscoy underground potash mine, production hoist, concentrator and infrastructure to increase the production capacity to 2.8 Mt/y. The infrastructure includes the installation of a standalone 1 million tonne per year processing train, a tailings management area and additional compaction capacity, ultimately increasing the mine production by 50%.
Supermétal was awarded the steel fabrication for many surface area buildings from the joint venture of SNC-Lavalin Inc. and PCL Industrial Management Inc.
-
Supermétal utilized a patented container unloading system that eliminates the use of a forklift or crane
-
The project requires a 3-coat epoxy painting system and 400 tons of fire-rated intumescent coatings.
-
Supermétal also implemented an internally developed, 4D model shop-drawing approval process. After implementing the system, it is estimated that the JV partner saved 2-3 weeks per sequence, in their shop drawing approval process.
