Key Projects across Canada in Montréal, Toronto and Vancouver
This year, Canam Group’s steel construction company, Supermetal Construction Inc,. tackled multiple complex steel projects across Canada. While some projects reached completion this year, others are projected to be finalised in 2025 or in subsequent years. Here’s a closer look at all of them:
Olympic Stadium Roof Replacement- Montréal, QC - Roof Dismantling
The consortium, made up of Canam Group and Pomerleau (Groupe Construction Pomerleau-Canam), is working closely with Olympic Park on the project to replace the roofing of Montreal’s Olympic Stadium. The new roofing will be rigid, with a central section composed of a combination of metal structures and membranes, and a peripheral section of translucent glass. The old roofing has already been dismantled and the suspension cables are being removed. The technical ring will be deconstructed and removed in 2025. The new roofing will then be assembled inside the stadium, on the ground, before being lifted into its final position.
The stadium is scheduled to reopen in 2028.

EcoPro BM Poplar, Bécancour, QC - Charging Ahead
This cathode plant in Bécancour, Quebec, is expected to cover more than 280,000 square metres (3 million square feet). We are supplying and installing 11,000 tons of steel for the project, with the steel being distributed to construct its 6 storeys. Canam’s prefabricated Murox steel wall panels are next in line to be installed. One of the most challenging aspects of this project is the tight schedule, as the building is expected to be completed in 2025.
141 Bay Street - CIBC SQUARE II - Toronto, ON - Topping Off Coming Soon
This 54-storey office tower, situated in downtown Toronto, Ontario, will stand as the twin of CIBC SQUARE I. We are installing 18,000 metric tons of steel for this project, which features 28-ton embedded nodes, columns and beams up to almost 19 metres (62 feet) long, beams weighing up to 28 tons, and 25 ton columns. The team is currently erecting the crown steel and the topping off event will take place at the end of January 2025.
Oakridge -Vancouver, BC - Sweeping Canopies and Vistas
This mixed-use development consists of approximately 4.3 million square feet (399,484 square meters) above and below grade, not including the residential buildings. The mixed-use development that includes residential, office, retail, civic uses, and park above a consolidated below-grade parking garage.
Supermetal Construction contributed to this project not only with our expertise in the erection of key structural components, but also with our design and fabrication know-how. Specifically, we designed, fabricated and installed the large and complex rolling steel canopies present at the bottom of the towers. To accomplish this, we utilised 600 tons of steel to create the canopies’ structure with jumbo Hollow Structural Sections (HSS). In December, the SMC team also started erecting the curved and galvanised crown steel. Multiple trades are also currently working on the remaining parts of the complex in preparation for its grand opening.

CFC4 - Grocery Fulfilment Centre - Delta, BC - Successful Completion
While the topping-off ceremony for the Sobeys Voilà CFC4 project in Delta, BC, was held in December 2023, the building will be completed in 2024. For this project, we collaborated with Beedie to build 37,161 square metres (400,000 square feet) grocery fulfilment centre, using 2,900 tons of structural steel and joists. The Canam team handled the early facets of preconstruction, steel design optimisation, the fabrication, and the installation of this grocery fulfillment centre.
